XBolt PRO Concrete Screw Anchor: European Technical Assessment ETA 14/0374
The European Technical Assessment (ETA 14/0374, 20 July 2023) behind Hobson's XBolt PRO concrete screw anchor, part EXHMSR, with Hobson's cover table showing which sizes carry which approval. It is the engineer's document: design data, installation rules and fire performance for M6 to M14 screw anchors in concrete.
What this covers
- Sizes and approvals table
- Intended use and base material
- Installation
- Characteristic resistances
- Seismic performance
- Fire resistance
Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- Assessed to Option 1: for use in both cracked and non-cracked concrete, strength classes C20/25 to C50/60, reinforced or unreinforced.
- Minimum embedment by size: M6 40mm, M8 50mm, M10 60mm, M14 75mm.
- Seismic C1: every size listed except M10 x 75 and M10 x 85. Seismic C2: the M8, M14 and M10 (100mm and longer) sizes, not M6. Seismic use needs a deeper embedment: M6 40mm, M8 60mm, M10 85mm, M14 110mm.
- Assessed for fire exposure up to 120 minutes, and reaction to fire class A1.
- Hammer drilling only. Once installed the anchor cannot be turned further, and its head must bear on the fixture undamaged.
- The ETA covers carbon steel and bimetal (stainless) versions. Carbon steel is for dry internal conditions only; bimetal can also be used outdoors and in damp conditions unless conditions are particularly aggressive, such as seawater.
- Anchorages must be designed by an engineer experienced in anchors and concrete, to EN 1992-4. The design figures in the ETA are characteristic values for engineers, not working loads.
Who it helps: Engineers and builders who need the certified basis for a concrete screw anchor in cracked concrete, seismic or fire-exposed fixings.
