XBolt Concrete Screw Anchor EXH6, EXD6, EXK6 (Size 6, Non-Structural): European Technical Assessment ETA 19/0755

Hobson's cover and the European Technical Assessment ETA 19/0755 (9 March 2020) for the XBolt concrete screw anchor in hex (EXH6), dome (EXD6) and countersunk (EXK6) heads. It covers the size 6 anchor in zinc plated 10B21 steel and A4 stainless, plus a size 8 hex head in A2 and A4 stainless, for redundant non-structural fixings in concrete.

What this covers

  • Cover and approvals
  • Materials and head types
  • Dimensions and markings
  • Intended use
  • Installation parameters
  • Characteristic resistances
  • Fire resistance

For Concrete Screws (Screw Anchors).

Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • For non-structural fixings only, where several anchors share the load (multiple use), under static or quasi-static loads. Cracked or non-cracked concrete, strength classes C20/25 to C50/60.
  • Zinc plated steel (electroplated over 5 microns or mechanically plated over 30 microns) is for dry internal conditions only. A4 stainless can also go outdoors, including industrial and marine environments, and in permanently damp internal areas, unless conditions are particularly aggressive (for example seawater splash zones or indoor pools).
  • Size 6 uses a 6mm drill bit and a 9mm clearance hole. Nominal embedment is 55mm for zinc plated steel (hole at least 64mm deep) and 70mm for A4 stainless (hole at least 80mm deep).
  • Minimum concrete member 100mm thick for zinc plated steel and 110mm for A4 stainless, with at least 40mm edge distance and spacing.
  • Hammer drilling only. Set with a torque wrench or impact driver to the table values (countersunk, pan and stainless heads by impact driver only). Once set, the head must sit fully on the fixture, undamaged, and not turn further.
  • Reaction to fire class A1, with fire resistance values for 30 to 120 minutes (R30 to R120) in concrete C20/25 or stronger.
  • Anchorages must be designed by an engineer experienced in anchors and concrete, to EN 1992-4:2018 design method A and TR 055. The resistances listed are characteristic values for engineers, not working loads.

Who it helps: Engineers and builders who need the certified basis for small screw anchors in non-structural, multiple-point fixings such as services and ceilings.
