XBolt Eye Concrete Screw, Zinc Yellow Passivate: M8 to M12 Loads and Installation
Hobson's two-page product data sheet for the XBolt eye, a concrete screw anchor with an eye head, in zinc yellow passivated carbon steel (part MXEMSYM). It gives the three sizes, installation specification, design and working loads in 32MPa non-cracked concrete, and an installation guide.
What this covers
- Sizes and part numbers
- Installation specification
- Tension loads
- Shear loads
- Installation guide
Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- Three sizes, packs of 50: M8 x 100 (55mm thread length, 14mm eye size), M10 x 110 (65mm, 17mm) and M12 x 120 (75mm, 22mm).
- Hole diameter equals the anchor size. Minimum embedment: M8 40mm, M10 50mm, M12 55mm. Minimum spacing and edge distance: 40mm, 50mm and 60mm.
- Working load in tension in 32MPa non-cracked concrete, with safety factors of 3.0 on concrete and 2.5 on steel already included: M8 3.1kN at 40mm embedment and 5.9kN at 55mm; M10 4.8kN at 50mm and 8.0kN at 65mm; M12 4.3kN at 55mm up to 9.9kN at 75mm.
- Working load in shear, same conditions: M8 at 55mm embedment 1.8kN at 40mm from the edge up to 6.5kN at 100mm; M12 at 75mm embedment 3.6kN at 60mm up to 12.6kN at 150mm.
- To install: drill to at least the minimum embedment, clean the hole with a vacuum or hand pump, start the anchor by hand, then turn it with a hardened bar such as a metal rod through the eye until it reaches the right depth.
- Listed uses: suspending mechanical and electrical services, internal suspended signage, and as an anchor point for rope, cables, shackles and hooks. The sheet gives tension and shear working loads for the anchor in concrete; it gives no lifting rating.
Who it helps: Services installers and builders hanging services or signage from concrete, and engineers checking design resistances.
