XBolt Eye Concrete Screw M16, Mechanical Galvanised: Loads and Installation
Hobson's three-page product data sheet for the M16 XBolt eye, a concrete screw anchor with an eye head, in mechanical galvanised carbon steel (part MXEMSGM160100). It gives the dimensions, installation specification, design and working loads in 32MPa non-cracked concrete, and a four-step installation guide.
What this covers
- Dimensions
- Installation specification
- Tension loads
- Shear loads
- Installation guide
Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- One size: M16, 170mm long, with 85mm of thread and a 35mm eye size.
- Installation: 16mm hole, minimum embedment 65mm, minimum spacing and edge distance 70mm.
- Working load in tension in 32MPa non-cracked concrete, with safety factors of 3.0 on concrete and 2.5 on steel already included: 7.3kN at 65mm embedment, 9.5kN at 75mm, 15.5kN at 100mm.
- Working load in shear at 80mm embedment, same conditions: 4.8kN at 70mm from the edge, 7.7kN at 100mm, 13.3kN at 150mm, 19.6kN at 200mm.
- To install: drill to at least the minimum embedment, clean the hole with a vacuum or hand pump, start the anchor by hand, then turn it with a hardened bar such as a metal rod through the eye until it reaches the right depth.
- Listed uses: suspending mechanical and electrical services, internal suspended signage, and as an anchor point for rope, cables, shackles and hooks. The sheet gives tension and shear working loads for the anchor in concrete; it gives no lifting rating.
Who it helps: Services installers and builders hanging services or signage from concrete, and engineers checking design resistances.
