XBolt Coupler Concrete Screw, Mechanical Galvanised: M12 Rod Hanger Loads and Installation

Hobson's two-page product data sheet for the XBolt coupler, a concrete screw anchor with an M12 internal thread, in mechanical galvanised carbon steel (part MXCMSGM). It covers the two lengths, the installation specification, and design and working loads in 32MPa and 20MPa non-cracked concrete.

What this covers

  • Sizes and part numbers
  • Installation specification
  • Loads in 32MPa concrete
  • Loads in 20MPa concrete
  • Installation torque

For Concrete Screws (Screw Anchors).

Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • A screw anchor for solid concrete with a coupler head that takes M12 rod: the sheet says it is for use with M12 hot dip galvanised all-thread rod. Internal thread M12 x 1.75.
  • Two sizes, M12 x 100 and M12 x 150 (MXCMSGM120100 and MXCMSGM120150), packs of 25.
  • Installation: 12mm hole, minimum embedment 55mm, minimum spacing and edge distance 60mm. 19mm across-flats wrench, 30mm coupler height, 25mm flange, 15mm minimum hole in the fixture.
  • Working load in tension, non-cracked concrete, safety factors of 3.0 on concrete and 2.5 on steel included: in 32MPa, 4.30kN at 55mm embedment up to 19.00kN at 110mm; in 20MPa, 3.30kN up to 15.00kN.
  • Working load in shear at 65mm embedment, same factors: in 32MPa, 5.40kN at 80mm from the edge up to 13.80kN at 150mm; in 20MPa, 4.20kN up to 10.90kN. No shear value is given at 40mm from the edge.
  • Maximum installation torque 80Nm in 32MPa concrete.
  • Listed uses: mechanical, electrical and pipe hangers, ceiling hangers, bottom plate fixing and timber frame tie down to concrete slabs.

Who it helps: Services installers hanging pipe, duct or ceiling rod from concrete, and engineers checking design resistances.
