Hobson declaration of performance

Mungo MCS and MCSr Concrete Screw, Size 5 and 6: Declaration of Performance (ETAG 001 Part 6)

Mungo's Declaration of Performance 1343-CPR-M 574-1/06.16, signed 9 March 2018, for the MCS and MCSr concrete screws in sizes 5 and 6, for use in cracked and uncracked concrete. The annexes of European Technical Assessment ETA-16/0319 of 10 May 2016 are attached, covering the MCS, MCSr and MCShr versions, intended use, installation data, characteristic resistances and fire performance.

What this covers

  • Declared performance
  • Product and materials
  • Intended use
  • Installation parameters
  • Hollow core slabs
  • Characteristic resistances
  • Fire resistance

For Concrete Screws (Screw Anchors).

Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • Only for multiple use in non-structural applications to ETAG 001 Part 6, in cracked and uncracked concrete C20/25 to C50/60, reinforced or unreinforced. Size 6 is also assessed for precast prestressed hollow core slabs and for fire exposure.
  • Three materials: MCS carbon steel (galvanised or zinc flake coated), MCSr stainless steel A4 and MCShr high corrosion resistant (HCR) steel. Head versions include hex, hex with washer, countersunk, pan and large pan head, plus connection thread and internal thread versions.
  • Installation: size 5 uses a 5mm drill bit, 40mm hole and 35mm embedment, 7mm max clearance hole, max installation torque 8Nm. Size 6 uses a 6mm bit, 40mm hole for 35mm embedment or 60mm for 55mm, 8mm max clearance hole, max installation torque 10Nm. With an impact screwdriver the max nominal torque is 120Nm (size 5) and 150Nm (size 6).
  • Minimum member thickness, edge distance and spacing: 80mm, 35mm and 35mm at 35mm embedment (sizes 5 and 6); 100mm, 40mm and 40mm for size 6 at 55mm. In hollow core slabs: at least 100mm edge distance, spacing and distance between groups, and at least 50mm from the prestressing steel.
  • Carbon steel MCS is for dry internal conditions only. A4 stainless suits outdoor and permanently damp conditions without particularly aggressive conditions; HCR where conditions are particularly aggressive, such as seawater, indoor swimming pools or road tunnels where de-icing materials are used.
  • Hammer drilling only. Once installed the screw cannot be turned further, and its head must bear on the fixture undamaged. Reaction to fire class A1; fire resistance values are given for size 6 from R30 to R120, not for hollow core slabs.
  • Design is by an engineer experienced in anchorages and concrete, to ETAG 001 Annex C or CEN/TS 1992-4. Figures are characteristic values for engineers, not working loads. Example: pull-out in cracked and uncracked C20/25 concrete, 1.5kN for size 5 and size 6 at 35mm embedment, 7.5kN for size 6 at 55mm.

Who it helps: Engineers and builders specifying small concrete screws for non-structural fixings, hollow core slabs or fire-exposed fixings.
