HDS-B, HDS-N and HDS-K Heavy-Duty Anchor: European Technical Assessment ETA-02/0030
The European Technical Assessment ETA-02/0030 (DIBt, 13 September 2019) for the Highload Anchor SZ, with Hobson's cover table for its HDS-B, HDS-N and HDS-K heavy-duty anchors, parts EAHMSZB18M, EAHMSZN18M and EAHMSZK18M. It is the engineer's document: intended use, installation parameters, characteristic resistances, seismic and fire performance for this torque-controlled expansion anchor in concrete.
What this covers
- Sizes and approvals table
- Product and materials
- Intended use and base material
- Installation parameters
- Installation steps
- Characteristic resistances
- Seismic and fire performance
For HDS Safety Anchor.
Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- Hobson's cover table: every listed size, M8 x 85 to M20 x 220, is Option 1 (cracked and non-cracked concrete) and ticked for fire, seismic C1 and seismic C2. HDS-K is the countersunk version, M12 x 115 only.
- Hole size by thread: M8 12mm, M10 15mm, M12 18mm, M16 24mm, M20 28mm. Hammer drilling only (vacuum drill bits allowed), drilled square to the surface, then blow or vacuum the dust out before driving the anchor in.
- Installation torque, zinc plated anchors with bolt or hex head screw: M8 30Nm, M10 50Nm, M12 80Nm, M16 160Nm, M20 280Nm. Countersunk: M8 25Nm, M10 55Nm, M12 70Nm.
- For concrete C20/25 to C50/60, reinforced or unreinforced, cracked or non-cracked. Each size has a minimum member thickness, edge distance and spacing in Annex B3; for fire from more than one side the edge distance is at least 300mm.
- Zinc plated steel is for dry internal conditions only. The ETA also covers A4 stainless versions (M8 to M16), which can be used outdoors and in permanently damp conditions unless conditions are particularly aggressive, such as seawater or road tunnels with de-icing salts.
- Assessed for fire exposure R30 to R120, and reaction to fire class A1.
- Use the anchor as supplied, without swapping parts. Anchorages are designed by an engineer experienced in anchors and concrete, to EN 1992-4 and TR055. The resistances in the ETA are characteristic values for engineers, not working loads.
Who it helps: Engineers and builders who need the certified basis for a heavy-duty expansion anchor in cracked concrete, seismic or fire-exposed fixings.
