Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- For plasterboard, chipboard, clay hollow brick and calcium silicate hollow brick. Works with wood screws and chipboard screws, indoors or outdoors.
- The plug shank knots behind the wall in a cavity, and the collar detaches automatically so it can be used for face or through fixing.
- Sizes 6 to 14, plug lengths 35 to 75mm. For example size 8: 50mm plug, 65mm hole depth, 4.5 to 6mm screw. Size 10: 60mm plug, 75mm hole, 6 to 8mm screw.
- Rotary drill only: no hammer drilling in hollow brick. Drive the screw until the knot forms in the cavity.
- Recommended tension loads use a safety factor of 5 and the largest screw for each size. Size 8: 0.3kN in clay hollow brick; with a chipboard screw, 0.18kN in plasterboard and 0.45kN in chipboard.
- Loads must be reduced for combined loads, reduced edge distances or spacing, and the data must be checked by an engineer experienced in anchorage.
Who it helps: Tradies fixing light items to plasterboard, chipboard or hollow brick walls.
