Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- For concrete, solid clay brick, lightweight concrete, calcium silicate solid brick and natural stone. Works with wood screws, chipboard screws and metric screws, indoors or outdoors.
- Sizes 4 to 20: the drill size equals the plug size, plug lengths 20 to 90mm. For example size 8: 40mm plug, 55mm hole depth, 4.5 to 6mm wood screw or M5. Size 10: 50mm plug, 65mm hole, 6 to 8mm screw or M6.
- Screw length is the effective screw depth plus the fixture thickness (size 8: 45mm plus fixture).
- Drill the hole, clean it (not needed in hollow brick), fit the plug for face or through fixing, then drive the screw until tight.
- Recommended tension loads use a safety factor of 5 and the largest wood screw for each size. Size 8: 0.85kN in non-cracked concrete C20/25 and up, 0.6kN in clay solid brick, 0.09kN in lightweight concrete.
- Loads must be reduced for combined loads, reduced edge distances or spacing, and the data must be checked by an engineer experienced in anchorage.
Who it helps: Tradies and builders fixing into solid masonry and concrete who need the right drill, screw and plug combination.
