Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- Plain finish, class 4.8, AS 1554.2.
- 16mm studs (13.2mm reduced base) from 40mm to 75mm long after welding, for example MSSMSRDM160050: 50mm after weld, 42.5mm of thread. One 20mm stud (16.5mm base), MSSMSRDM200050, 50mm after weld.
- A reduced base means the shank is smaller than the thread's major diameter, so the thread diameter clears the weld fillet.
- Length before welding is about 3 to 4mm longer than after.
- A flux ball on the end helps stabilise the arc for a stronger, cleaner weld.
- Used for wear plates, jobs with limited space around the stud, electronic and automotive assemblies, and construction.
Who it helps: Fabricators and welders using arc stud welding.
