Stainless Steel Threaded Rod Properties: Class 50, 70 and 80 Yield and Breaking Loads

Hobson's four-page technical data sheet of stainless steel allthread (threaded rod) properties. For each size from M3 to M36 it gives the pitch and stress area, and the minimum 0.2% yield stress, minimum tensile stress, minimum yield load and breaking load for property class 50, 70 and 80, and Neptune Rod.

What this covers

  • Minimum yield stress
  • Minimum tensile stress
  • Minimum yield load
  • Breaking load

For Threaded Rod (Allthread).

Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • Covers sizes M3 to M36, with pitch and stress area for each (for example M12 1.75mm pitch, 84.3mm²).
  • Minimum 0.2% yield stress: class 50 210 MPa, class 70 450 MPa, class 80 600 MPa, the same at every size.
  • Minimum tensile stress: class 50 500 MPa, class 70 700 MPa, class 80 800 MPa.
  • Neptune Rod has the same figures as class 80.
  • M12: minimum yield load 17.7kN (class 50), 37.9kN (class 70), 50.6kN (class 80); breaking load 42.2kN, 59.0kN and 67.4kN.
  • M20: minimum yield load 51.5kN, 110.3kN and 147.0kN; breaking load 122.5kN, 171.5kN and 196.0kN. These are material properties, not working loads.
